Examples: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX.

Home TV (Consumer TV):

Funding: Your subscriptions (cable, streaming services) and hardware (Smart TV, Roku).
Goal: To provide on-demand entertainment chosen by you.

Selecting the correct size for your digital sign is crucial for visibility and impact. Follow these three key steps:

1. Determine the Viewing Distance.
This is the most important factor. The ideal size ensures your content is readable from where your audience will be.

Rule of Thumb: For every 10 feet of viewing distance, provide at least 10 inches of screen diagonal.

Example: If the average viewer is 20 feet away, you need a screen that is at least 40 inches diagonal.

2. Consider the Location and Purpose.

Menu Boards & Kiosks (Close Proximity): Smaller screens (32″ – 55″) are perfect as viewers are only a few feet away.

Lobby or Waiting Room Displays (Medium Distance): Mid-size screens (55″ – 75″) work well for engaging people within 10-30 feet.

Wall-mounted Displays & Large Venues (Long Distance): Large commercial displays (86″ and above) or Video Walls (multiple screens tiled together) are necessary for audiences over 30 feet away.

3. Account for Content and Resolution.

Simple Content (e.g., large text, bold graphics): Can use a smaller screen size effectively.

Detailed Content (e.g., high-res images, videos, dense data): Requires a larger screen and a high resolution (4K UHD is standard) to maintain clarity.

Quick Checklist:

  • Viewing Distance: _ feet away = Minimum _ inch screen.
  • Location: Is it a menu board, lobby, or large venue?
  • Content: Is it simple text or detailed video?

By balancing these factors, you can choose a digital signage size that captures attention and delivers your message effectively.
